A sustainable rural society, where no poverty exists and people act responsibly toward the environment

Warm greetings to valued donors, partners and readers!

We have gone through the year 2020 with challenges and uncertainties due to the epidemic and natural disasters. However, looking back at 2020, CRD has made every effort to effectively implement 12 projects in 8 provinces and cities including Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, Bình Định, Đắk Lắk and Lào Cai. All the projects have been successfully implemented and highly valued by donors, local authorities, partners and beneficiaries.

Following the development strategy in the period 2020-2025, CRD has focused on 3 main fields of activities:

Sustainable development of market-oriented agriculture; Natural resources governance and biodiversity preservation; Disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. Children protection, gender equality and good governance are cross-cutting themes integrated with these fields.

CRD has achieved impressive results in the year 2020, of which the most outstanding are:

  • The agricultural production of beneficiaries has been increased significantly in both quantity and quality. Diseases, especially African swine fever have been controlled that reduce risks in production. Value of agricultural products has been enhanced thanks to the close connection between farmers and businesses. As a result, farmers’ income has been significantly increased.
  • Forests have been enriched by planting native trees under the forest canopy; Communities have gradually applied information technology in forest management to prevent and solve forestry law violations; Livelihood models under the forest canopy such as models of growing rattan and medicinal plants have contributed to improve income, create motivation for local people to participate more actively in forest management and protection; Small businesses and forestation households have been improved their awareness and capacity to meet VPA-FLEGT’s requirements to effectively participate in the legal timber supply chain.
  • Local people and stakeholders are more aware of climate change and disaster risks, and thus have become proactive in managing disaster risks at the community level and mitigating damages. The crop structure transformation has been carried out to adapt to climate change through applying VietGap standards; scanning QR codes to trace the product origin, etc; establishing climate information and warning systems on risks of natural disaster and climate change. These systems are regularly updated to make plan for the natural disaster and climate change prevention and adaption. Particularly, CRD actively implemented relief activities to help people in the aftermath of natural disasters in 2020.
  • Thanks to the project’s support, the capacity of managers at district and commune levels in Thừa Thiên Huế province to access the rights has been improved that help them implement well the national target programs in the locality. Parents, teachers, state management agencies and other stakeholders have raised their awareness and participated actively and responsibly in promoting the realization of children’s rights in schools as well as in community. Through the dialogues, many legitimate opinions and recommendations of children have been recognized and concretized in the local socio-economic development programs. The role, position and voice of women have been valued, especially in family planning and decision-making process.

We do hope the Annual Report helps you get an overall picture of CRD’s activities and contributions to society in the past year. On the behalf of CRD team, I would like to express my sincere thanks to donors, state management agencies, partners, colleagues and beneficiaries who have enthusiastically cooperated with CRD and given us valuable support to implement activities in the year 2020. We wish to continuously receive your kind support and companionship in the upcoming years.

Sincerely,

TRƯƠNG QUANG HOÀNG

Director
