Workshop on long-term benefit on the environment and sutstainable livelihood of the plantation forest for timber




  1. Introduction

The negotiation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VPA-FLEGT) between the Government of Vietnam and the European Union (EU) began in November 2010. The main objective of this agreement is to promote sustainable forest management through controlling of timber product trading. To ensure the process is inclusive, participatory of all stakeholders of forestry communities is a must. The EU delegation in Vietnam, therefore, set up a support fund to promote this in 2013 through direct implementation of International Non-Government Organizations working in Vietnam.

The project with titled Promoting the Participation of the Central Vietnam VNGO-FLEGT network in the VPA-FLEGT processes” funded by Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and implemented by ICCO Netherlands Organization with support technical from two partners Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD) and Consultative Research Center on Natural Resource Management (CORENARM). The project will be implemented in three years (2014-2017), it was officially implemented in April 2014 in 04 provinces in central region, namely: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam. The project aims to enhance the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), small wood producers and forestry agencies in central region in order to contribute to the negotiation and implementation in the VPA-FLEGT process.

At the present, the community groups and local people in central region plantation forest are mainly for wood chip.Plantation forest for timber product is not concerned by the forest growers. It has been pointed out that plantation forest will be a main source of timber products with FLEGT certificate. Thus, one of the activities of the project implementation in the next time will organize a workshop on long-term benefit on environment and sustainable livelihood of the plantation forest for timber to forest dependent communities in Central region. Therefore, the FLEGT Project in Central region needs to recruit 02 qualified consultants (including 01 consultants and 01 assistant consultants, note: the consultants has the right to select assistant consultants)with professional knowledge and experience to effectively conduct this activity.

  1. Workshop activities

-Raising awareness of the forest growers on the benefit of the plantation forest for timber to the communities.

– Collecting information and opinion of forestry agencies, local authorities and forest dependent communities on long-term benefits on the environment and sustainable livelihood of the plantation forest.

– Designing and finalizing the workshop agenda.

– Preparing the presentations and materials related to the workshop.

-Organizing operates and promote the workshop.

– Synthesizing and writing a workshop report.

  1. Qualification, experience and capacity

– Having at least 05 years experience working in forestry community and timber trade.

– Having knowledge and understand on VPA-FLEGT

– Having ability the documents research and synthesize information skills

– Having operated group discussions skills

– Having experience in analyzing and writing report

This workshop will be conducted in February 2017 in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri province.
