A sustainable rural society, where no poverty exists and people act responsibly toward the environment
On March 13-15, monitoring the first forest protection patrol in the first phase of 2020 was conducted by the Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry in collaboration with Nam Dong District Forest Protection Department, and representatives of Thuong Lo Commune People’s Committee and 03 forest management household groups and communities in Thuong Lo commune.
As a result, the forest protection patrol team detected a violation case of encroachment of the community forest land. After 3 days of patrolling, the community of Doi hamlet and the Cha Mang household group did not detect any violation related to illegal encroachment, logging and hunting. However, the forest protection patrol team discovered a case of group 1 of Doi hamlet encroaching on the community forest land by planting Acacia tree crossing the boundary about 1-1.5 meter.
According to Mr. Tran Huu Tam, the CRD’s consultant, the encroachment area was small, however, the leader of group 1 of Doi hamlet promptly reminded the violating household not to encroach the community forest in the next time.
This activity is under the project framework Strengthening the role of communities and civil society organizations in conservation in Central Truong Son. The project is coordinated by the Vietnam Association for Nature Protection (WWF) with the co-implementation of the Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University and the Forest Owners Sustainable Development Association of Thua Thien Hue province (FOSDA-TTH) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
